This course
focuses on travel and tourism to examine the unique characteristics of selected
world regions from a geographic perspective. Students develop an understanding
and appreciation of the ways in which the natural environments, economies,
cultures, and other aspects of world regions interact. Students understand the
travel and tourism industry through a series of issues-based investigations
that highlight the complexity of the industry and the interconnectedness of the
components. Students learn to identify the benefits of travel while minimizing
cultural and economic conflicts to achieve sustainable natural and human
systems. Past and present patterns and trends are analysed in order to make
predictions about the opportunities and possibilities for future travel and
tourism.
