In the West, the study of History stretches from ancient fragments of writing by Herodotus, the “Father of History”, through the chronicles of Joan of Arc in Medieval times, to the grand meta-narratives of modern historiography like those of Marx and Engels. Despite this ancient heritage, the art of history has retained its relevance in contemporary culture.  The ancient Greek word “historia”, meant “inquiry”.  The importance placed on inquiry-based learning in education today therefore gives the study of history a special place.

At King City Secondary School, students have the opportunity to study ancient, medieval and modern history from a global perspective. Our department also offers courses in various associated areas of study including law, economics, and philosophy.  Follow the links on this page to the History Department MOODLE, (You may need to get a password from a student attending the school) . It includes a variety of information about relevant Historical Websites, Assessment Policy, Field Trips, Footnoting, Exams and Assignments.
