Welcome to the MHS Library!

Our Teacher-Librarians focus their work on supporting student learning in a variety of ways such as: curating available in-house and online resources, providing instructional guidance on research strategies and online databases, delivering a wide variety of how-to workshops on topics such as taking notes, referencing, creating great slides, or delivering an oral presentation.  In the age of modern learning, digital tools and online resources are essential. Teacher-librarians provide technical assistance and, more importantly, instruction on digital organizational and planning, study and research skills, and a selection of digital tools that boost productivity and engagement, reduce stress, and increase student success.

Loans and Renewals:

A student card, a photograph of a student card, or a digital barcode replica on a cell phone are required to borrow library materials. You must present your student ID when borrowing or renewing materials. Books may be borrowed for three weeks and audio-visual materials such as DVDs are for one week.  Loaned materials may be renewed for a longer period of time, provided that no other student has requested the item. Please bring your book or item to the library to renew it before the due date.

Computers:

The library houses over 20 desktop computers for student use. We also have 24 Chromebooks that students can borrow for an hour or the full school day.  Students are expected to take excellent care of the device while it is in their possession and are responsible for its safekeeping.  All Chromebooks must be returned to the library by 3:15 pm daily for recharging.

Printer:

Students may print a black and white letter size page at a cost of 5 cents per page.  Each student account is provided with $5.00 for printing at the start of each school year. Should students spend that amount in its entirety, they may top up their account using a coin-operated machine in the library.  Students can print from their cell phones, personal laptops, school Chromebooks, desktops, or the designated print station in the library.

Photocopier:

A  photocopier is available for student use at 5 cents per copy. The photocopier fees are paid from the student account which is credited $5.00 at the start of each school year. Students may top up their accounts using the coin-operated station in the library the same way as the print balance.

Study Rooms:

The library has two small study rooms. Permission to use a study room is required; please speak to a library staff member before entering.  Study rooms may be reserved in advance for group collaboration, virtual meetings, or quiet study purposes. To reserve a study room, please speak with a library staff member.

Makerspace Zone:

Our Makerspace Zone is a great place to destress, unwind, relax, and have fun with friends. The Makerspace area is equipped with jigsaw puzzles, chess sets, board games, beading and bracelet making, meditative coloring, Lego, and more. Students are asked to keep the area tidy and to return all items to the shelves when finished using them.
