Welcome to the M.G.P.S. website!
At Markham Gateway P.S., we are honoured to work in partnership with such an incredible and dynamic community of students and families. We together, through our partnership can ensure that our learners achieve to their full potential, both socially and academically. We
strive to create an inclusive, safe and supportive school environment that
helps maximize student achievement and well-being and ensures that all that walk through our building feel a sense of mattering and belonging.
Markham Gateway P.S. is one of the farthest
southeast schools in York Region. Its position certainly matches its name — it
really is at the gateway into Markham. The school is a relatively modern two-storey
building that first opened its doors in 2001 and is located near the
intersection of Markham and Denison Roads. We currently have close to 400 students who use our beautiful play space and soccer field during our outdoor
times.
Our School is part of York Region. First Nations people have been living on this land now called York Region for thousands of years. The First Nation peoples and the settlers who arrived here made promises to share this land. These promises are called treaties. In what we now call York Region, there are two treates: Treaty 13, the Toronto Treaty and The Williams Treaties. The Chippewas of Georgina Island are our closest First Nation community and are our partners in education.
Creating strong connections between students, families
and staff is important to us as we work to ensure that every member of our
diverse community feels valued, nurtured and encouraged to succeed. We work together to focus on initiatives that
support the York Region District School Board’s goals in the areas of Effective Instruction and Assessment, Mental Health and Well-Being, Modern Learning, Equity and Indigenous Education and Dismantaling Anti-Black Racism.
At M.G.P.S,
we offer:
A variety of athletic, arts, academic and
community co-curricular opportunities that enrich our students’
school experiences
The EarlyON Centre, where children up to six years old can
come with a caregiver to prepare them for school and families are
encouraged to be part of their child's early learning
A daily healthy snacks program, where
students receive different healthy snacks from three of the basic food groups (a
dairy, a grain and a fruit or vegetable) every morning
The Before and After School Child Care program that runs 5 days/week
Pizza Lunches every Monday and Friday
We look forward to working with all members of our
school community as we share the important task of educating our students and
future leaders. Please do not hesitate to contact the school to ask questions or
share any insights you may have regarding your child's education and
school experience. We welcome the opportunity to connect with you!
