WELCOME!

Welcome to our Meadowbrook’s website! The purpose of this website is to share information and keep everyone in our school community informed about our school goals, activities occurring at Meadowbrook Public School, and other general information.

AT MEADOWBROOK…

Safety Matters!

Attendance Matters!

Friendships and Relationships Matter!

Environment Matters!

Thinking and Learning Matter!

You Matter!

The staff members at Meadowbrook are committed to working together to ensure that each child and family is engaged in education, feels safe when they are at school and takes pride in our school. We are committed to excellence and support the well-being of all students.

As research clearly shows, attendance is directly related to a student's success at school. As a staff, we are commited to creating a school environment that engages students and creates a sense of belonging and purpose. We are working to foster a sense of responsibility in each student to arrive at school on time and to be at school every day.

Relationships matter. It is important that each student builds friendships and relationships to support well-being. We look forward to building relationships with families and community members as well. It truly takes a village to raise a child and we are very happy to be a part of the Meadowbrook community. We are intentionally working to build student and family engagement and voice to support the work we do each day. If you have ideas, comments or suggestions on how we can make school a better place for you, we welcome these and invite you to let us know what you are thinking.

Meadowbrook has a strong focus on the environment and, thanks to our Eco Team and the participation of all students and staff, we achieved a GOLD status in the EcoSchools Certification Process last year. We are proud of this but are shooting for Platinum this year. Students will not only be learning about the environment but they will also be learning in the environment more often. .

As another part of our school focus, we are working to build a solid and strong conceptual understanding of mathematics for each student. As part of the YRDSB Board initiative, we have committed a minimum of 60 minutes to math instruction each day. Students will be learning to understand, use and explain mathematical thinking daily through the Comprehensive Math Program.

In order for students to achieve excellence in an area like mathematics, there must be a balance between understanding basic math concepts, practising skills like multiplication tables, and developing the thinking skills needed for advanced problem solving. These foundational skills remain a focus – and combined with creativity and critical thinking, innovative problem solving, effective communication and collaboration, they lead to excellence.

~ Achieving Excellence: A Renewed Vision for Education in Ontario, April 2014

In order for children to learn mathematics, they must first believe they can do it. We will be working to help students approach mathematics with a positive mindset and the belief that everyone can do mathematics. This is a place where parents can be of tremendous support. When you engage with your child in a supportive, relaxed atmosphere, encouraging the thinking about math, you will help build the mindset needed for success.  Check out this parent presentation for more information about math instruction.

The essence of a school is the energy and enthusiasm that students reveal when they feel safe, challenged and supported and it is the passion and compassion of caring adults (parents and staff) that provide this support.

We encourage you to contact us should you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to our continued partnership and thank you for supporting your child(ren) everyday!
