Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.

grade levels, and opportunities for all levels of musician from beginner to
advanced.

9 Instrumental Music, Advanced, Lunchtime Course
Students attend class for approximately
35 minutes per day during period 4 lunch.
They learn to extend their technique on their instruments, and
foundational concepts in music theory.
Previous instrumental experience from grades 7 & 8 is strongly
recommended.
This is an extra-credit course. Students can still take two semestered
electives.

Students learn a woodwind or brass
instrument, and gain the ability to read music notation. No previous experience on an instrument is
required.

Students attend rehearsal after school
for approximately two hours, one day per week. In a concert
band setting, they apply their skills to the preparation of music for
performance, learning important lessons in musical composition, and the
teamwork required to achieve success.

1O4 or AME 1O4.
This is an extra-credit course. Students can still take two semestered
electives.

Students continue to improve their
technique on an instrument, and explore more of the musical principles
introduced in grade 9. This course
runs during the lunch period for approximately 35 minutes per day.
Grade 9 Instrumental Music, Advanced or
Beginner, is strongly recommended.
This is an extra-credit course. Students can still take two semestered
electives.

Students learn to play the piano, and
will be able to play recognizable songs by the end of the term. They learn about the foundations of the
musical language. No previous musical
experience is required.
