As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Mount Joy P.S. supports student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.

A focus on literacy: Literacy is woven into the curriculum and supports for classrooms. These include author visits, ongoing workshops, a professional learning community, the purchase of resources for bookrooms and the classrooms.

A focus on student leadership: Opportunities for student leadership include: lunch monitors for primary classes, organizing and running the milk program, office helpers and a technology leadership team. Intermediate students participate in a leadership team.

Parents as partners: Research indicates that when parents are involved in their children’s education students are more successful and achieve better results. We are working toward building partnerships through providing parents with information to support student learning at home. Literacy tips are offered in monthly newsletters, on the school website in classroom newsletters.

Creating a positive school climate: We encourage our students to reach their potential academically, socially and emotionally and recognize their efforts and achievements through announcements, newsletters and in assemblies.

Focus on Arts and Athletics: We have many school teams. Students in Grades 6,7 and 8 participate in an instrumental music program. A school band has been formed.

Mount Joy Public School:

We are also very proud to offer the following programs to our students:
