Courses in Family Studies help prepare students for a successful life.  Family Studies courses are offered in all grades to both male and female students. 

In Grade 9, students take Exploring Family Studies. This is a survey course of the central features of all the other Family Studies courses offered.  Students in the Grade 9 course learn proper nutrition for adolescents, how to deal with peer and family relationships, make fashion choices, develop decision and problem-solving skills, improve communication skills and other life skills.  There are many hands-on activities. This course is an open (O) level.

Grade 10 offers a Food and Nutrition course where students study healthy eating habits following Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.  There are many food labs where students cook and eat what they prepare. This course is an open (O) level.

In Grade 11, students can choose from the following: Food and Culture, Understanding Fashion, Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology, Raising Healthy Children, and Working With Infants and Children.  All these courses combine both theory and practice. These courses range from Open, College, M (University/ College) and University levels. Please refer to career cruising and or guidance for more information.   

The Grade 12 courses are: Human Development Throughout the Lifespan, Families in Canada, Nutrition and Health, and Working with School-Aged Children and Adolescents. These courses provide background for university and college courses in both the arts and sciences.  Students will be introduced to research and critical thinking skills necessary for successful adult living and post-secondary education.
