​The History Department at Sir William Mulock Secondary School encourages students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to become responsible citizens and informed participants in a Canadian context.  The courses offered in this discipline will contribute significantly to students understanding of their heritage and the social, cultural, governmental and economic structures and relationships which have influenced the development of Canada and the world.  Using Historical Thinking Concepts, students will learn how to think like a Historian... and be better equipped as life long learners.​

Experiential education is also a priority for our department.  While we cannot plan any travel outside of our classrooms right now, we are still doing our best to help bring History to life through interactive materials, virtual museums and other life stories.  We strongly believe that experiencing other cultures and learning about different world views enables us to be more empathetic global citizens. When we are able, it will be our hope to run local and international trips that will enrich your young person's time in high school.  Past highlights include:

• the 100th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge
• travelling to Italy on "The Italian Campaign" 
• visiting ancient Rome and Pompeii​
• The 95th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge celebration
• Acts of Remembrance at Menin Gate in Ypres
• Researching and then finding a soldier's memorial who fell in World War I
• Traipsing through the trenches of World War I
• Storming Juno Beach... we had no idea water could be that cold!
• Viewing the Bayeux Tapestry
  
• Climbing the Eiffel Tower
• and many more!
