Welcome to the Visual Arts Program
at Mulock!
Artists
and designers are shaping culture and industry more in this century than any
other century in history. The future belongs to people who think creatively,
can visualize several different solutions to one question and can communicate
their ideas on a world stage. Creative
critical thinking is necessary for a wide variety of fields and the arts is a
great place to develop those skills.
Our
teachers are dedicated to introducing students to new techniques, artistic
styles, processes and media. We believe that everyone can benefit from the opportunity
to express themselves and develop their creative abilities in the Visual Arts.
We offer a diverse program which includes foundation art courses to specialized
courses like Drawing, Cartooning, Illustration, Mixed Media, Computer
Animation, and Yearbook Publication and Design. We have a Mac Lab with a
traditional darkroom for Photography, an Art Studio and a Media Arts and
Animation Studio with a green screen. Students are invited to take part in
extra-curricular art opportunities by joining the Arts Council.
Arts Council
Arts
Council is open to anyone who enjoys art, a desire to share art with the Mulock
community and experience specialized art projects outside of class time. We
have members from all grades. Meetings are held Thursdays after school from
3-4:30 in the art room (206A) starting in September. Students can join at any
time. These are some Arts Council events:
Halloween
Pumpkin Carving & Sale
– Students carve pumpkins and sell them during our annual Mulock Halloween
Celebrations.
Bizzart – Students sell handmade items and
works of art in the main hall. Each student gets to keep their own earnings. We
always have a large variety of items.
Gingerbread
House Contest –
Students create gingerbread house designs with a partner or small group for a
prize.
Monthly
Themes – Each month we
focus on a different art project for council members only.
Art-a-Thon – In April, we get a group of students
together and paint for 12 hours. We have dinner, treats and watch a movie as
well. After, the artworks are displayed for the school to enjoy.
Murals – Students work on a different mural
each year to spread art throughout the school.
See
Ms. Weale for further information.
Artist of the Month
Each
month, we recognize the work of one student artist from each grade. They can be
chosen from any Visual Arts, Photography or Media Arts class. Three of their
artworks are featured on the SWMSS Art TV screens in the Visual Arts Department.
Student Art Show
At
the end of each semester, we hold an Art Show consisting of artworks from all
of the Visual Arts Department classes. Students choose their favourite art piece
for display. Parents are encouraged to come out to the event with their child
to enjoy the art and refreshments.
