Active and Safe Routes to School is a partnership between the catholic and public school boards in York Region and the Region of York.

Due to the large number of buses that service Sir John A. Macdonald PS, we have developed specific procedures to ensure that busing for our students is safe and orderly.

Busing is a privilege extended to our students to support their prompt and safe arrival at school.  Every student is responsible to the Principal of the school for his/her conduct while traveling on the bus. The following expectations are intended to make our busing procedures safe and orderly for everyone.

  1. All aspects of the school’s code of conduct apply while students are on a school bus.
  2. Students must board the bus in an orderly fashion and remain seated for the duration of the bus ride.
  3. Students must ride on the bus to which they have been assigned.  At no time are students allowed to ride a different bus.
  4. In the event of misconduct, the bus transportation privilege may be withdrawn by the Principal, in conjunction with Student Transportation Services, and the bus company.
Morning Bus Procedures

There is always a staff member on duty in the mornings to greet the buses. The bus drivers have been instructed not to let students off the bus until an adult supervisor is on duty at 7:50 a.m.  As children exit their school bus they are expected to walk around the school to the supervised school yard, or supervised Kindergarten yard.  If a bus arrives after the 8:00 a.m. entry bell, the students are supervised as they get off the school bus and they are brought into the school using the main front doors.

Afternoon Bus Procedures

At afternoon dismissal, students are supervised as they move from classes to their assigned exit doors.  From there they are expected to move promptly to their assigned bus.  Buses leave the school at 2:45 p.m. which gives students ample time to board the bus after their 2:35 p.m. dismissal.  From time to time bus stops and/or routes are changed. When this happens, we notify the parents by letter and notify the teachers and students immediately.
