Parkland P.S. opened in 1991 to serve a culturally diverse student population in the Southeast area of Markham. Parkland provides a solid academic program within the context of the Ontario Curriculum. The school population grew steadily from 400 to a high of over 950 during late 1990s. As a result of the construction of a number of new schools in the area, Parkland now services approximately 670 students.
In addition to our regular program students, Parkland hosts Gifted Students who have met the YRDSB gifted criteria, as well as a Primary Autism class. Both groups of students are valued and appreciated members of our school community.
Parkland is known as a school of wonderful students who demonstrate respect and concern for others on a daily basis. Not only are we a caring community, but we are a school that continues to excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. Students at Parkland are able to participate in a wide variety of extra curricular activities ranging from theatre and dance to a number of team sports.
Much of our success as a school can be attributed to the character and commitment of our community. Parkland students are known for their sense of optimism and belief in respect and responsibility that sets the tone for our entire community.
