Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

School Plan for Continuous Improvement
|
Page Content Poplar Bank P.S. is committed to supporting the Board’s literacy focus under the three Board focus areas of Quality Schools, Building Family and Community Capacity and Quality Workplaces. The following is an outline of our school’s Plan for Continuous Improvement including highlights of some of the strategies to support student achievement.
- Our school’s focus for curriculum implementation and student learning is literacy - all students can demonstrate success, particularly in the areas of reading and writing. Attention will be given to addressing the needs of our at-risk learners. As a staff, we will explore the use of portfolios as a means of capturing evidence of success as well as areas of need for students. Our school is also part of the Literacy Collaborative project and we have a team of teachers learning about Instructional Intelligences. In year 1 of our plan, resources will be concentrated on the Primary Division, year 2 – Junior and year 3 – Intermediate.
- Our school’s focus for effective schools is to promote a comfortable and safe climate that supports student learning. By fostering a pro-social approach based on the Second Step program, we aim to establish a fair and consistent code of conduct. Our school motto, Poplar Bank Pride, serves as the reference point for student recognition.
- Our school’s focus for parental and community involvement is to provide better communication with all school partners. We aim to link fundraising activities to the school plan. We also hope to build community capacity through volunteerism that supports school projects such as the snack program, extracurricular activities, etc.
