All secondary school
students must complete 40 hours of community involvement in order to graduate
from secondary school. These hours may
be completed at any time prior to graduation; students may begin earning hours the summer following
grade eight.
Steps for completing your Community
Involvement:
1.
Pick up a Notification and Completion of Community
Involvement Activities form in the Guidance office. Any activities occurring as of September
2012, must use the new form.
2.
Know what Community
Involvement activities are considered Eligible and Ineligible for
completion. Refer to the reverse of the Notification and Completion of Community
Involvement Activities form or http://www.yrdsb.ca/Programs/Guidance/CommunityInvolvement/Pages/default.aspx.
3.
Search for
an activity that meets the criteria on the Eligible list.
4. Students
must now have their community involvement activities pre-approved by Guidance
before participation.
Complete
the Notification and Completion of
Community Involvement Activities for pre-approval. Include the following information:

of the activity (Specific description of task completed)

For
example: Activity- Sorting food at food bank
·
Name of
organization
5.
Submit the
Notification and Completion of Community
Involvement Activities to Guidance for pre-approval.
· Submit your form for pre-approval on Wednesday and recollect Friday at lunch.
· Students
are responsible for picking up their pre-approved forms and will not be called
down.
NOTE: Up to
three activities may be submitted for pre-approval on the same form.
6.
After the
activity, submit your completed form with the following information:

Name of organization,
telephone number and supervisor name

Parent/Guardian

7.
The number
of hours completed will be entered in the student’s record and the student copy
will be returned through home room.
