Student Success Program

Student Success at RHHS

The Student Success Team (SST) is comprised of:
  • Student Success Teachers
  • The Guidance Counsellors
  • Special Services Department Head
  • Personal Alternative Education Department Head
  • English as a Second Language Department Head
  • School Administration
  • Child and Youth Worker

The Student Success Team provides student advocacy and mentoring to support students who are at-risk as defined by the Ministry definition. The Student Success Teacher meets regularly with students based on need, and communicates as required with the parents/guardians of the student being serviced. If a student is no longer responsive to individual direct support, student support services personnel employed by the Board and/or external agencies are engaged. The ultimate goal is to interact with classroom teachers to form meaningful partnerships in supporting students.

Transition Support
The SST supports the transition process for students moving between panels, schools and
classrooms.   Our Student Success Teacher facilitates the transition from Grade 8 to Grade 9 by working with elementary staff to identify incoming students who may require additional support including personalized timetables. They also support students through key transition points from Grade 10 to destination courses and from secondary school to post secondary studies.

Monitoring of Students
The SST engages in ongoing monitoring of students including identifying and tracking students based on a variety of sources including data provided by Guidance, ESL and Special Education Departments and Elementary Transition Teams.

Staff and Community Development
The SST provides school-wide staff development in support of Student Success initiatives.

Academic Support
Student Success provides direct support and where appropriate, instruction to students requiring credit salvaging and/or credit recovery in order to support student achievement, retention and transitions.

All of this takes place in Room 1009 J The Student Success Centre J. Students are welcome to work during their lunch period in order to catch up or keep-up. Ms Deveau our Child and Youth Worker is also available to address attendance, socio-emotional and restorative approaches.
