If students do not have the prerequisite for a
course, they may present a portfolio of previously produced work to have the
prerequisite considered to be waived.
In all of the above courses students
will have the opportunity to practice and learn via the creative process. It is
our goal to challenge students to problem solve while creating, researching,
and learning Visual Arts. Students will make connections through historical,
traditional, and modern forms of art-making. Critical thinking and conceptual
skills will be learned along with technical abilities and students will be able
to express and communicate their research having a greater sense of identity,
self-awareness, self-confidence, and sense of well-being. Within the classroom
discussions regarding career paths will also take place – whether students are
heading towards an arts based career (post-secondary education – portfolio
preparation) or how to use their learned artistic skills to enhance their
chosen career path.
Students have an opportunity to apply
for an Art Achievement Award if they have successfully completed five Visual
Arts courses within Richmond Hill High School. This award was designed to
celebrate students who are passionate and committed to the arts.
Feel free to contact us or make arrangements to come for a
visit.
