The school population initially drew mostly from the dual track French Immersion Program offered previously at Buttonville Public School which was relocated en masse to Sir Wilfrid Laurier Public School, a single track French Immersion site.  In addition, significant residential development has occurred in the area since that time which, together with a high demand for French Immersion programming, has resulted in significant growth over time.  As a result, effective September 2013, all Grade One classes attend French Immersion at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Public School starting in the Grade Two year.  An eight room addition was completed in November 2014 on the second level.

The official school opening was held on Thursday, April 10, 2008.  The school colours determined by the students are blue and silver.  The school mascot determined by students is the lynx:  “Allez les Lynx!”.  The school motto is “On apprend et on s’épanouit ensemble.”  The school song was introduced in Fall of 2011.  The school Principals have been Laurie Finn (2008-15), Ghada Sadaka (2016-2017), Deborah Joyce (2017-2023).  The Vice Principals have been Susan Palmer (2009-2010), Rosanna Totino (2010-13), Craig Barton (2013-2015), Kathryn Gravill (2015-2018), Penny Lam (2018 - 2019), Wayne Spencer (2019-2023) and Lilite Vasilyan (2023-current).
