Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Scholarships are based on merit, using academic and / or non-academic criteria. Bursaries are based on financial need. Both scholarships and bursaries are free money and do not need to be repaid.
- ScholarshipsCanada.com claims to be Canada's most comprehensive scholarship portal, search through their extensive database to find scholarships, student awards, bursaries and grants. You'll also find information about student loans, applications and budget planning.
- Scholarships and Financial Aid at Ontario Colleges - Most college websites have a section on scholarships and financial aid that is available at their college. The link to scholarships and financial aid is usually visible on the homepage or is listed in the prospective students section.
- Scholarships and Financial Aid at Ontario Universities - The Ontario Universities' Application Centre eINFO website has a scholarship search tool to help you find the internal scholarships, unique to a specific university and available to first-year students. Once you have located a scholarship of interest, visit the Financial Aid section of the university's website for additional information.
- Canadian and International Scholarship Programs - The Government of Canada maintains a database for Canadian students wishing to study abroad and Foreign students wishing to study in Canada.
- Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) has links to a number of other non-OSAP scholarships and bursaries.
- Athletic Awards, Scholarships and Bursaries - All athletic financial awards offered by Canadian universities must follow the criteria established by Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), the national governing body of university sport in Canada. The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) website has additional information on criteria for athletic financial awards in Ontario. For additional information on the awards that are available at a specific Ontario university, use the OUA Directory to contact the for your sport.

Awards
- Prestigious Awards at Specific Ontario Universities - For a complete list of Prestigious Awards at Specific Ontario Universities, use the eINFO Scholarship Search Tool and as one of the Search Criteria, choose By Application: Required.
- Duke of Edinburgh's Award - designed to help young people develop a sense of responsibility in themselves and their community by expanding their horizons, the Award has evolved into one of the most comprehensive individual development, self-training and personal achievement programs in the world.
This is a non-monetary award.
- Governor General’s Awards (bronze) – This is awarded to the student who achieves the highest average upon graduation from a secondary school. The Governor General's website lists the criteria for eligibility.
There is no monetary award associated with the Medal.
- National Book Award Program – The University of Toronto recognizes and rewards the very best Canadian secondary school students, regardless of which university those students choose to attend. These are students who demonstrate superior academic performance, original and creative thought, and exceptional achievement in a broad context. Each secondary school in Canada is invited to nominate one student (who is entering their final year of secondary school) on the basis of their criteria. Deadline for nominations is in early October. The Book Award is sent to the school for presentation to the student.
