Recognizing Student Success
Ventura Park P.S. is proud of all of its students. As part of our attention to fostering a positive school climate, we make every effort to recognize student achievement, including:
- Monthly Character Assemblies and Certificates
- Morning Announcements-Les gestes de gentilesse (Random Acts of Kindness)
- Student Leadership and “Service to School” Opportunities
Student Leadership
Student leadership is the foundation of all school initiatives that benefit our student population and community. Ventura Park P.S. is proud to support the following student led initiatives:
- Les Fonceurs (Trailblazers)-A committee of grade 5 class representatives who meet regularly with teacher leaders to suggest ideas to inspire school spirit
- Les Moniteurs de paix (Conflict Mediators)-A group of grade 4 and 5 students who have been trained by teacher leaders in conflict resolution skills. These students support younger students resolve minor conflicts with peers such as “She took my ball!”, “He won’t let me play four square!” that naturally occur on the playground during recesses. Les moniteurs de paix are recognized by their bright yellow sashes and engage in debriefing sessions with their teacher leaders. Kids helping kids resolve their differences works!
- Service to School-We believe that every student in our school is an equal member of our Ventura Park school family. The school benefits when all members of the “family” contribute to its day-to-day functioning. To this end, we engage our Junior students in taking on responsibility by taking on roles such as Milk Monitors, Bus Monitors, Pizza/Sub Monitors, Frozen Yogurt and Popcorn Distributors. Students are scheduled on a rotation basis by month to provide every student the opportunity to help while making the commitment of time age-appropriate. We are proud of our students who are so team-spirited and we are grateful for their helping hands.
