AUDITION
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
WHAT WILL HAPPEN:
Auditions for entry into the Dance Arts Mackenzie
will consist of five parts
- Dance class where students will show technique in a
variety of styles
- Improvisational activity
- Group collaboration activity
- Interview
- 1 ½ to 2 minute solo in a style of the student’s
choice
WHAT TO WEAR:
In order for the dancer’s technique to be clearly
visible, please follow the uniform expectations:
- Dance attire and dance shoes
- Bare feet must be worn for the modern and
improvisation component
- Long hair must be tied back
WHAT TO BRING:
- Water, a healthy lunch and snacks
- Music for individual solo
WHAT NOT TO BRING:
Please refrain from bringing the following to your
audition room: jewelry, headshot and resume
SOLO INFORMATION:
Candidates are required to perform a 1 ½ to 2 minute
solo of any dance genre. They must come to the audition with their own
copy of the music on either a CD or downloaded track on a portable
device (e.g. mp3 player, iPod).

TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
Please keep the following success criteria in mind
while preparing for your audition:
Bring your passion to the audition and be ready to
show your love of dance.
Have confidence in your performance and your
abilities. Let your technique, and your previous knowledge of dance,
drive your professional, polished performance.
