AUDITION APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

WHAT WILL HAPPEN:
Auditions for Theatre Arts Mackenzie will consist of two parts:
  • A group workshop session where students will be required to participate in variety of improvisational and creative collaboration activities
  • A presentation of one memorized monologue
WHAT TO BRING:
Please bring the following to your audition:
  • “Drama blacks”  Black t-shirt, comfortable black pants, and running shoes.  Students should choose clothing that will allow you to move freely, while participating in dramatic activities.  Clothing should be logo free and adhere to the York Region District School Board dress code policy.
  • A one page response to the following statement, “Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art.”  Students are welcome to use any medium (writing, drawing, photo) to respond to this statement.  You will be responsible for sharing your response during the audition process.  Please note: the Arts Mackenzie faculty are not responsible for providing technology for you to showcase your answer.
  • Water, a healthy lunch and snacks
WHAT NOT TO BRING:
Please refrain from bringing the following to your audition: jewelry, cell phones, headshot and resume.

WHAT TO PREPARE:
The morning workshop does not require any additional preparation.  You will need to be ready to respond to various dramatic prompts and show how you work positively in a group environment. Following the workshop, you will have a monologue audition.  You will be required to memorize a monologue from the audition monologue handout.   Your monologue choice should reflect your dramatic strengths.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
Please keep the following success criteria in mind while preparing for your audition:
  • Follow the instructions in the monologue package.  If you pick Option B, make sure to have a printed version of what you are going to say and bring that printed version to the audition.
  • When you are performing, you need to clearly show knowledge of TO WHOM your character is speaking, what your character WANTS to communicate to the listener, and what TACTICS your character uses to achieve his or her goal
  • The monologue audition will be 10 minutes
