Welcome all families in the George Street and Aurora Senior P.S. community!  We are thrilled and excited for the 2014/2015 school year.

George Street is a K-3 building that promotes environmentally friendly practices and integrates technology through the use of iPads, iRovers and a wonderful computer lab.  Through the hard work of community members, staff and students we have created warm and welcoming classrooms.  We are so proud of our Gold Status for our Eco Schools initiative at George Street P.S.  The students and staff have focused on “being green” by turning out unnecessary lights and computers, promoting boomerang lunches, using green bins and knowing what is to be recycled and what is not.  We love using our outdoor classroom and are thrilled with our new green space located right outside the kindergarten classroom.  It is a space developed and created to inspire children to learn through the inquiry and discovery process.     Technology is embedded throughout the curriculum content areas and all students have the ability to use technology as a learning tool each day.

Aurora Senior is a 4-8 building that supports the arts, athletics and high expectations.  As you enter our school you will notice a beautiful mural created by our students and a newly renovated library that has a brand new computer lab and Macbook work station.  The library is a thriving learning space that is used throughout every day for classroom learning, as a study hall during the lunch hour and a space that is used for students and the community.  The resources within the library are numerous and students are welcome to check books out throughout the day.

We are proud of our athletics and we offer multiple opportunities for students to engage in sports whether it is playing intramurals or being part of organized teams throughout the school year.  Aurora Senior P.S. hosts area and regional tournaments for YRDSB students who play basketball and volleyball.

Aurora Senior is home to the central area gifted program where students are challenged in programming that supports an enhanced learning opportunity for those students identified as gifted.  Students who choose gifted programming are bused to Aurora Senior P.S. and attend gifted programming with other gifted students from approximately 19 feeder schools.

Both schools promote a safe and supportive learning environment and have a common Touchstone that states “At Aurora Senior and George Street Public Schools Everyone Belongs!” We are supporting our students to set goals for themselves as learners and as individuals in our community.  We encourage you to work with us to set high academic and social expectations for your children and model the attitudes and behaviours that are conducive in developing respectful citizens of our society.  We thank you for supporting us in implementing the rules and procedures and for showing your children that you value education and that you believe in them.

We anticipate a great year ahead as we continue working with your children in diverse ways and look forward to introducing many exciting and engaging experiences.

We are extremely confident that, with your support, we will be highly successful in our endeavours for the 2014/2015 school year, and we look forward to celebrating these successes with you.  We share a universal interest – your children!  Please do not hesitate to contact the school to ask questions or express any concerns you have regarding your child or their education.  We welcome the opportunity to talk with you.
