The Cooperative Education component may be completed in grade 11 or 12,
earning 2 credits in a placement, thus meeting the criteria for the SHSM sector. See
guidance to enrol in SHSM by grade 11.
OYAP – Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
The student gains hands on experience
in one of the 150+ skilled trades with a with licensed tradesperson at a real
work site. Students may be signed as
an apprentice with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU), in grade 12 and continue the apprenticeship after graduation for
wages. Students must be 16 years of age or older, some trades require full day co-op, see Co-op
department for details.
Dual Credits – attend college once a week
Combine the Co-op work experience, with 1 weekly, 3-4 hour, college
course and earn Co-op credits and 1 college credit. See Guidance or Co-op for
the list of courses being offered in each semester.

Keen OYAP students may qualify to
take the Level 1 Apprenticeship training at a college in semester 2 of grade 12
in one of the trades listed above.
Students require a full day, 4 credit co-op to accommodate this
opportunity. The college portion (2 months) may earn students 1-3 credits
toward their OSSD, and additional credits are earned at the Co-op placement.
Students must apply in semester 1 of
grade 12 and be interviewed after attending an Open House at the college in
October. Previous OYAP Co-op experience
in the chosen trade is an asset to acceptance. See the Co-op department to plan

HPA – High Performance Athlete
Students training and competing at the national
or international level of their sport, may earn a co-op credit in 1 period of a semester,
upon approval.
Competitive Placements
Students apply for these placements 2+ months ahead of the start of the
co-op semester, and compete with students from other schools. The Co-op
department assists the students with the application process prior to the
competitive interviews. Listen for announcements.
