We live in the present and we plan for the future – but how do we understand where we’re going and what progress looks like? To best answer this important question, we first need to understand where we have come from. For that you need an understanding, and an appreciation for the subject of history.

Stories and legends. History is made from a collection of stories. Sometimes inspiring and uplifting; sometimes chaotic and immoral. These stories shape the way we think about our country and world, and help us understand our place within it.

History can both be inspiring, and motivational. History remembers people and events that have brought about incredible change, and allows us to 'hear the voices' of our ancestors, for “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

In taking history, students are encouraged to 'do history' and develop transferable skills to other subjects, and the outside world. Skills like developing the ability to ask questions and evaluate information, will go a long way in helping them be successful in their life goals and pursuits. Take history courses!
