A great deal of research has shown the positive link between physical activity and academic success. Participation in regular exercise significantly increases concentration, builds self-confidence, improves mood and promotes strong character. Ultimately, physical activity prepares students to learn and succeed in the classroom. Teenagers who are physically active are also more equipped to take on the emotional and social challenges they face each day while in high school and beyond.
The Dr. G.W Williams Physical & Health Education department offers a dynamic and balanced program that promotes the physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth of all participants. It is our aim to create a fun and active learning environment in which all students feel safe and engaged, regardless of their ability and experience level. Through the Teaching Games for Understanding approach, students have an opportunity to develop movement skills and apply strategies to a variety of sports, games and fitness activities.
We also recognize that students must be well-informed critical thinkers in order to build and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. Students in our program are provided with the knowledge and tools they need to make positive decisions, set achievable goals, communicate effectively with others and make healthy eating choices.
