Booking Guidance Appointments:

Will begin once all students are fully timetabled and timetable updates are complete. This will most likely begin mid-September. Instructions on how to schedule a Guidance appointment can be found in MyBlueprint under the heading “Resources”, on the Guidance page of the ECSS website, and on the table of our Guidance Pop-Up Shop.

HOW TO SCHEDULE A GUIDANCE APPOINTMENT:

Students who are attending classes in person or learning remotely can schedule appointments using ECSS’s booking system through TeachAssist.

*Students who schedule in person appointments will need to maintain Social Distancing when in the Guidance Office and must be wearing their masks properly at all times.

Students who are remote can either schedule a telephone appointment or request a Google Meet.

To book an appointment please follow and complete ALL steps listed below:

1.            Students log into their TeachAssist account through ta.yrdsb.ca.

On the TeachAssist home screen, scroll down to the heading Appointment Bookings (under the ECSS calendar heading)

Select the desired date for the appointment – students cannot schedule appointments for the same day so please select the next school day.

* If you do not see any times listed for your counsellor on a particular day, it means they   are already fully booked so please select the next available day/time

Select the time of the appointment that is desired and available for your designated Alpha Guidance Counsellor

Indicate the reason from the list provided

     Click Submit Reason

2.            On the day of the Guidance appointment, ALL students will need to inform their classroom teacher at the beginning of class of their appointment.  In person learners should leave class a couple of minutes before their appointment time.  Remote Learners will be contacted by their Counsellor during their requested time slot.

Please note:  If a student misses their appointment or does not answer the call at their scheduled time, they will need to reschedule their appointment.

The Place of Guidance and Career Education in the Curriculum:

The focus of the Guidance Department at Emily Carr Secondary School is to provide students with the tools they need to be successful in school, in their daily lives and in preparation for their post-secondary pathway.  We offer a variety of services, programs and events to assist our students.  Our focus is threefold:

Academic Counselling: Guidance counsellors support students individually with their academic course selections and they provide overall support to help students achieve academic success.

Career Counselling: The Guidance Department provides opportunities and materials for students to discover and explore a variety of career possibilities.  Counsellors help students to individually set goals, create a plan and prepare, so that they can achieve their desired pathway goal whether it is the world of work, apprenticeship, college or university.

Personal Counselling: Guidance counsellors are always available to listen and support students with personal concerns in a safe, caring and confidential way.  We also work with our community agencies to make outside support available if required.

Potential Graduate Release of Information:

There will be a one-time release of electronic student data files for all students in Grade 12 by October 8th to the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS), and to the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC), using secure transmission technology.  This will activate all of your future applications for this year. If you would like more information about this, please contact your assigned guidance counsellor.
