The Place of Guidance and Career Education in the Curriculum:
The focus of the Guidance Department at Emily
Carr Secondary School is to provide students with the tools they need to be
successful in school, in their daily lives and in preparation for their
post-secondary pathway. We offer a variety of services, programs and
events to assist our students. Our focus is threefold:
Academic Counselling: Guidance counsellors support students individually with
their academic course selections and they provide overall support to help
students achieve academic success.
Career Counselling: The Guidance Department provides opportunities and
materials for students to discover and explore a variety of career
possibilities. Counsellors help students to individually set goals,
create a plan and prepare, so that they can achieve their desired pathway goal
whether it is the world of work, apprenticeship, college or
university.
Personal Counselling: Guidance counsellors are always available to listen and
support students with personal concerns in a safe, caring and confidential
way. We also work with our community agencies to make outside support
available if required.
