Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Page Content We are thrilled to announce our study of Mindset at Bernard! Mindset is an idea that was discovered by a world-renowned psychologist, Carol Dweck after decades of research on achievement and success. Through her research, she came to determine that there are two mindsets. The first is a FIXED MINDSET, in which a person believes that their abilities and intelligence are fixed traits and cannot be changed. The second is GROWTH MINDSET, in which a person believes that their abilities and intelligence can be improved over time through hard work.
It is our goal to instill a GROWTH MINDSET in our students. We are working with students in the junior division with a focus on neuroscience and achieving goals through effort. Through an interactive online program, Brainology, students are learning to view their brain as a muscle, how their brain works and ways to exercise it to make it stronger. They are being supported and encouraged to approach their school work and other activities with a belief that success is possible for ALL who are willing to work for it.
