Welcome Grade 8 Students and Families.  We are so glad that you are joining us, and look forward to sharing with you all the great programs and experiences that Huron Heights has to offer!

What Do I Need to Graduate?

Students require 30 credits, 40 community involvement hours and must complete the literacy requirement in order to graduate and obtain their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Click on this link for a detailed explanation of the graduation requirements.

 

What Courses Do I Take In Grade Nine?

Students entering Grade 9 are required to take 8 courses - 4 courses will be scheduled in Semester One (Sept. – Jan.), and 4 courses in Semester Two (Feb. – June).

Students take compulsory courses in Grade 9:

·         ENGLISH (de-streamed or locally developed)                                    

·         SCIENCE (de-streamed or locally developed)                 

·         GEOGRAPHY (academic)                       

·         MATH (de-streamed or locally developed)

·         PHYSICAL EDUCATION (open)                        

·         FRENCH (academic or open)                   

     

Students must also take two optional coursesand choose two alternates when completing their course selections. These courses include:

  •          ARTS – Visual, Dramatic, Dance, Music (Instrumental and/or Vocal)
  •          BUSINESS – Introduction to Information Technology
  •          SOCIAL SCIENCES & HUMANITIES – Food and Nutrition Studies
  •          SPECIAL EDUCATION – Learning Strategies GLE1O1 (for students who are identified through the Board’s IPRC process)
  •          TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION – Communications, Construction, Tech. Design, Precision Machining, Welding, Health and Personal Services, Transportation
  •          ​COMPUTER STUDIES – Digital Technology and Innovations in the Changing World
