Principal's Message

Welcome to all new and returning Lake Simcoe families!  It is an exciting time of year as we begin our learning routines and work together on student success.  We wish to acknowledge a special thank you to our custodial staff, office admin staff, and teachers for their additional time in working to prepare for the beginning of our school year.

In grades JK to 3, the Ministry of Education has capped a maximum number of 20 students per class (with the exception of Full Day Early Learning Programs). In all schools, this may necessitate the creation of several combined (split) grade classrooms throughout all divisions.  As we process new registrations and determine those students who have moved away, our organization may shift in order to maintain the Ministry requirements. During the next week and a half we will meet as a staff to discuss any reorganization that may need to occur. Parents will be informed during the week of September 22nd about any changes that will occur that may or may not impact their child. Changes to student placements will not be reviewed before this date.

Please mark your calendars for our curriculum night on  Thursday Oct. 2 from 6:30-7:30pm.  This evening will provide an opportunity for parents to meet teachers and engage in discussions around programming, expectations and how parents can support learning at home.  This evening will also be a great way to discuss with teachers the best way to communicate with you.

Our character trait for the month of September is Respect.  Respect plays an important role in a school. We need to take a person’s feelings, needs and thoughts into consideration as we build relationships within the school community. It is important that this message of treating each other with respect is a similar message a student receives at home and at school in order for them to build positive relationships with staff and their peers. What can members of our school communities do to support Respectful Workplaces and Learning Environments? Treat all people with dignity and respect. Serve as a model of respectful behavior to others in your daily life. Voice complaints in a constructive manner, beginning directly with the person whose behavior has offended. (YRDSB)

The success of Lake Simcoe students cannot be accomplished without the support and partnership of our parents.  We welcome your participation in your child’s learning, whether at home and at school.  Within the school, many opportunities arise for parents to be involved.

Our Breakfast Programme is in need of parents to support and assist in many ways.  If you have an hour or two in the early mornings, and would like to work in this programme, please contact Mrs. Barkey at the school office.
