Lake Simcoe P.S. is committed to supporting the Board's literacy focus under the three Board focus areas of Quality Schools, Building Family and Community Capacity and Quality Workplaces. The following is an outline of our school's Plan for Continuous Improvement including highlights of some of the strategies to support student achievement.
Our school focus for Curriculum Implementation and Student Learning is continuous improvement in achievement with an emphasis on grade level improvement in writing and spelling. We are also looking for continuous improvement over the year in the Learning Skills section of the report card that includes skills in areas such as conflict resolution and homework completion.
Our focus on Parental and Community Involvement is to chart increased parental and family involvement in and responsibility for children's learning. One of the measures of this involvement is the number of parent volunteers and the numbers of parents who are willing to transport their children to the after school tutoring program.
The school's focus for Effective Schools is to work on improving behaviour by charting the reduction in the number of behaviour incidents and suspensions. We are very proud of the depth of our behaviour team and the intervention strategies we have developed.
The Curriculum goals are based on the work of Dr. Barrie Bennett and Howard Gardiner. Our Behaviour goals are based on the work of Dr. Rudolph Dreikurs.
The in-school technology expertise allows us to use very innovative tracking and communication systems both within the school and between the school and the community.
We view student achievement as being a combination of academic growth and social and emotional development. We also believe that growth should be measurable and that we must be accountable in reporting all areas of achievement to our families.
