Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Learning a language is not an easy task, but many
of our students at Langstaff persevere until the very end with a sense of
accomplishment and overall confidence. As parents, we often tell our children
that they can do anything they want to. However, to them, this is nothing but
an empty assertion. Students need to take risks, face failure and get back up
on their own to develop confidence. Learning a language entails all of the
above. As a result, our students at Langstaff develop the confidence they require
to pursue the post-secondary programs of their choice, acquire public speaking
skills to help advance one’s career and opportunities, as well as collaborate
well with others. Excellence does not stop at one language. We look forward to
meeting students from Adrienne Clarkson Public School, Beverley Acres Public
School, and other FI schools.
We also support other students (Core French) in the
Richmond Hill area on their journey to bilingualism. We have the option of
continuing French until grade 12 in our Core Program. Completion of the program
grants students the Core French Certificate.

A MESSAGE FROM MADAME LY:
Having worked in Ontario Public Services, I
advocated for and ensured French Language rights for people in Ontario. I have
a special understanding of the importance and the value of French in our
province, and the potential it brings to a career. At Langstaff, my
department’s teaching approach is a unique blend of proven language acquisition
strategies and kind-heartedness. We use this knowledge to help students
succeed. We offer a positive and inclusive learning space for our students as
well.
