Speak Up for Kids - York Region Children's Aid Society Can Help

October is Child Abuse Prevention Month and York Region Children’s Aid Society is counting on you for your support to help protect children and youth in our community.

We know that schools, teachers and principals play an important role in keeping children safe. In 2015-2016 there were a total of 165,000 of referrals to Children’s Aid Societies in Ontario. A call to York Region Children’s Aid can lead to an offer of help for a family, child and youth.

Children’s Aid Societies, with the help of community partners, provide a broad range of services to children and families where there are concerns about safety and well-being. In addition to visiting children and families in their home, child welfare workers can help families obtain the services they may need, such as parenting or treatment programs for problems such as addictions, mental health, and anger management.

Every child and youth has a right to safety.

Break the silence and speak up if somebody you know needs your help.

If something a child says or does causes you to feel concerned about a child’s safety or well-being, please call York Region Children’s Aid Society to share those concerns at (905) 895-2318 or toll-free at 1-800-718-3850.

You do not have to be certain that abuse is happening. You just need to use your best judgment and make the call. York Region Children's Aid Society will then make an assessment using trained workers to determine the risk in a situation.
