​Volunteer Opportunies Abroad

GAP - is an organization that places secondary school graduates between the ages of 18-29 in volunteer placements around the world. Students may choose to volunteer in one of 15 different countries including: Australia, British Isles, China, Costa Rica, Ghana, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Malawi, Mexico, Paraguay, Russia, Thailand or Vietnam. Placements range form 2 weeks to 10 months with departures taking place every month of the year. The cost of this program will vary. See http://www.gapyearabroad.ca for more information.

Additional Costs: Airfare and other travel expenses, travel insurance, visa, permits (room and board is covered for the duration of the placement).
In some placements students are given a weekly allowance. Placements in developing countries will not do this and accommodation there may be quite basic.
 
Canada World Youth - offers international programs to young people aged 17 to 24. CWY program is an exciting way for young people who are trying to decide what to do with their lives and would like to volunteer in Canada or overseas. Participants are required to live with host families.
 
In order to be eligible for the CWY program you must be:
  • Be between 17-24 years of age
  • A Canadian citizen
  • In good health
  • Motivated and ready to embark on an experience of a lifetime.

COST: there is a $250 participation fee, you must also pay for your own vaccinations and medical and dental exams. You must also fundraise $2100. The money goes towards deferring the expenses of the program.

Work Abroad Opportunities

SWAP - is a the largest student and youth exchange program in Canada. SWAP helps students obtain a work visa, and help with confirming travel details. Upon arrival to the host country, SWAP and its overseas partners help participants search for employment and accommodations. Emergency support is also provided throughout the participants stay.
