After School Literacy Classes
After school literacy classes run at least 5 weeks before the test. Classes run twice a week from 3:05 to 4:35pm for five weeks.
During that time students will write two practice tests, one booklet 1 test and
one booklet 2 test, as well as practicing
short writing answers, writing newspaper reports, series of paragraphs
supporting and opinion and multiple choice questions. Students will also be
reading and examining passages from previous tests. The OSSLT is a skills based
test which cannot be studied for but with practice the 75% needed to pass is
easily achieved. Please contact Maple High School if you would like
your child enrolled in one the after school classes.
In Class practice
Starting in February and continuing until the test
there will in class practice tasks for all grade 10 classes. Students will be
asked to complete sample tasks from previous tests and their teachers will be
taking them up in class. The practice during the months of February and March
will help prepare your child to reach the 75% needed to be successful in the
OSSLT.
Grade Nine Practice Test
In May 2018, grade nine students wrote a short practice test to help them prepare for the OSSLT. Teachers at Maple HS marked the tests and the tests will be returned before the end of the school year. The following documents are available to review how students did on their practice test and can be used to see how they can improve before writing the test next school year.
