Students will explore the principles of training and apply them to their cardiovascular and muscular training programs, with a focus on toning and firming. Activities may include aerobics, step, yoga, core strengthening, pilates, circuit training, running, and resistance training. Physical fitness will also be enhanced with a variety of low organizational games and sports.

This course will be designed to encourage lifelong participation in physical activity through the lens of basketball. With physical activity as the focus, it will provide students with both theory-based and practical-based learning experiences related to all facets of the game. Topics of study will include the history of the game, rules and strategies, fundamental skills, sport-specific training, leadership and other character-building principles.
COURSE NOTE: Enrichment activities for this course may include a field trip to a professional and/or semi-professional basketball game and a ski/snowboard trip. Students are required to wear a phys. ed. uniform that can be purchased at registration for approx. $30.

This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.

Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership (classroom based) PLF4M​1
This course enables students to explore the benefits of lifelong participation in active recreation and healthy leisure and to develop the leadership and coordinating skills needed to plan, organize, and safely implement recreational events and other activities related to healthy, active living. Students will also learn how to promote the benefits of healthy, active living to others through mentoring and assisting them in making informed decisions that enhance their well-being. The course will prepare students for university programs in physical education and health and kinesiology and for college and university programs in recreation and leisure management, fitness and health promotion, and fitness leadership. .
