WHAT ARE THE SOCIAL SCIENCES AND THE HUMANITIES?
Social Sciences and the Humanities is the scientific study of society and the ways in which we relate to one another. It helps explain how society works. Social Sciences and the Humanities department also includes courses in Family Studies. These courses allow you to learn a variety of concepts which include personal growth, wellness, nutrition, cultural values, as well as the impact of political, economic and social systems on the individual and society.
WHY SHOULD I TAKE SOCIAL SCIENCE AND THE HUMANITIES COURSES?
Family Studies, Social Sciences and the Humanities courses help you to think critically and creatively, they teach you interpersonal skills, daily practical skillls, they teach you to reason, and to ask the right questions. These courses can help provide you with the knowledge you need to understand the world you live in. Family Studies, Social Sciences and the Humanities provides you with the tools you need to navigate the future.
*Some of the courses offered by the Social Sciences and Humanities department lead to a Health and Wellness Specialist High School Majors (SHSM) Ministry of Ontario certificate.
