PERSONALIZED
ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION (PAE)
Personalized
Alternative Education (PAE) is a unique educational program where
students achieve success on their own timelines, within a flexible classroom
structure. PAE uses alternative classroom settings and specialized timetables
in order to service the individual needs of students. Our PAE programmes take a
holistic approach to student progress in that we create student programmes with
the entire student in mind (social, emotional, mental, academic). This program
works well for students who are experiencing difficulties due to family
obligations, medical conditions, attendance issues and emotional upheaval. Our
PAE Teachers provide guidance, academic support, descriptive feedback,
evaluation and assessment in a small classroom environment. We are unique in
our structure as we also offer the T.E.A.M program.
TEACHING
ESTEEM AND ACADEMICS AT MILLIKEN (T.E.A.M.)
Teaching
Esteem and Academics at Milliken (T.E.A.M.) is a branch of the Alternative
Education Department operating from Milliken Mills High School. The program is
established to meet the diverse educational needs of students unable to make
the transition to high school successfully.
T.E.A.M.
combines core subjects at the essential, workplace and applied level with
outdoor education and community partnerships to bring high risk students back
into the educational system. The program uses a project-based approach to
address difficult social, emotional and academic issues faced by students.
Projects undertaken encourage an enhanced understanding of who the students are
and empower the students to act on opportunities open to them in the real
world. They are aimed at providing students with relevant life skills,
knowledge and attitudes and leave them with an enhanced understanding of who
they are while emphasizing that there are many opportunities and options for
them in the real world.
Students
enrolled in T.E.A.M. are working towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma
(OSSD). Students also participate in the Dual-Credit Program where they have
the opportunity to earn a College credit in addition to a High School credit.
Dual-Credit courses could include: Environmental Science, Culinary, Baking,
Personal Management, Mechanical Engineering, Welding, etc.
We
also offer ALEP to our T.E.A.M. This allows students the opportunity to earn
high school credits by combining in-school credits with experience in the
workplace. We endeavor to build self-esteem in a supportive environment and
develop positive attitudes and values towards oneself, education
and the world of work.
