Community Involvement Instructions and Form 210
Community Involvement Instructions and Form
As part of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirements, students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities during their secondary school years. Accumulation of community involvement hours may begin the summer after grade 8.

The purpose of the community involvement requirement is to encourage students to develop an understanding of civic responsibility and the role they can play in supporting and strengthening their communities. Community involvement increases student awareness of community needs and how they can make a positive difference. Helping others enhances self-image of students and fosters a greater sense of belonging. Parents/guardians can help by encouraging students to volunteer and develop lasting ties within their communities.

Please follow the following steps when completing your volunteer hours:

  • Stop by guidance to have your hours pre-approved by a member of the Guidance Department prior to volunteering to ensure they will count towards your Community Service Hours.

  • Print or email the attached form and have the volunteer activity supervisor complete the form. Note that 1 form can be used for up to 3 different experiences.

  • Submit your form by dropping off the completed form to the Guidance Office OR emailing a digital copy of the form to sdss.guidance@yrdsb.ca. Please remember to keep a copy of the form for your records.
