STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND WELL BEING: LITERACY 
 
Each student will show an increasing trend over individual baseline data of critical thinking measured by a variety of assessment tools.
  • Model, practice, and implement the elements of critical thinking to develop and promote critical thinking skills and to foster an inquiry based learning environment 
  • Use authentic/real-world situations based on the “Big Ideas” to: 1) promote critical thinking skills, 2) guide students to articulate and understand their connection to the real world, and 3) create robust tasks to facilitate student learning
 
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND WELL BEING: MATHEMATICS
 
Students will demonstrate an integrated and strategic approach to decoding and solving multi-step math problems and demonstrate an improvement in their ability to articulate mathematical thinking in variety of ways, as measured by EQAO and report cards.
  • Develop a shared understanding and a common language for math problem solving throughout divisions, structure lesson in three parts: before, during, after
  • Use of inquiry and the three-part math lesson to foster math learning 
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND WELL BEING: CLIMATE
 
To provide each student a voice in an engaging, inclusive, safe, and respectful environment.
  • Students and staff work together to build a collaborative and safe learning environment (e.g., consistency in expectations)
  • Provide differentiated learning opportunities including access to technology in order to support student engagement, to allow students to see their successes, and to allow for the exploration of areas of interest
  • Processes to ensure student input are clearly articulated and students’ stated priorities are evident in the school (e.g., student leadership opportunities)
  • Barriers to student participation have been identified and are resolved where possible
  • Provide opportunities to facilitate a positive and supportive school environment
