Technological Studies Department

The Technological Studies Department at Thornlea Secondary School offers a rich experience for students. It is a place where students can explore careers and see how theory works in practice. In our classes, students learn by doing and have a chance to refine their knowledge through shared experiences.

In all of our courses, students learn to define problems, assign goals, and work with others to create, solve, repair, or build almost anything. We have four fully-equipped shops that specialize in: transportation; 3-D design and carpentry; cosmetology and esthetics; and communications and film production.

In grades 9 through to 12, students can work on projects from the real to the surreal. They can build anything from pop bottle rockets to ping pong ball cannons; they can design CO2 cars or rebuild a real car; they can create hair and makeup for high fashion models or for horror film actors; and they can produce anything from a daily newscast to a short film.

Students in our classes can explore careers in design, architecture, corporate communications, automotive design and repair, cosmetology and esthetics, film, televison, and production.

In the Technological Studies Department we strive to meet the needs of all students and make the theororetical real.
