Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Page Content SHSM Arts and Culture
The SHSM–Arts and Culture enables students to build a foundation of sector-focused
knowledge and skills before graduating and entering apprenticeship training, college,
university, or an entry-level position in the workplace. Students will start the SHSM in grade 11 and must select a two credit co-op in either their grade 11 or grade 12 year. This SHSM may be designed to have a particular focus – for
example, on arts management, architecture, graphic design, interior design, fashion design, film, or technical production. This focus is achieved
through the selection of the four art major credits
in the bundle of grade 11 and 12 courses.
ARTS Council
The mandate of the Arts Council is to promote arts and culture at Tommy Douglas Secondary School. Initially we will be looking at creating an environment within our new building that will reflect our school's committment to social justice and character education. Students will propose and work towards enriching the school by displaying paintings, sculptures and installations.
The Council also will unite all the arts disciplines to bring together arts events and multi disciplinary performances. A student does not have to be taking an art course to join.
We will meet once a week in the art room. Meeting time and place will be on the morning announcements.
Hope you can join us!
