"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn."
- Ignacio Estrada
Our Program
Each student is unique and learns in his or her own way. The focus of the Student Success Program at Unionville High School is to support students and ensure that each child has all of the learning opportunities he or she needs to be successful and beyond.
Some of the ways that Student Success supports learning opportunities include:
- Transition planning and activities to ensure that students have a smooth transition from elementary to high school, as well as a purposeful exit strategy upon graduation.
- Advocacy, daily social/emotional support, attendance, and academic support through student monitoring and meetings between students and Student Success teachers, and/or other resources within the school and the larger community.
- Credit salvaging and Credit recovery to support students during and after a course to achieve success where appropriate
We also strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for students who may need a space to work, study, or simply destress.
The Student Success Team and Teachers
The Student Success Team at UHS consists of our Vice-Principals, the heads of Guidance, Special Education, Alternative Education, ESL, Literacy, and the Student Success teachers and Educational Assistant. The team meets regularly to support students who are struggling in school, or are in need of individualized attention.
The Student Success Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the success of all students in secondary school. The primary focus of this role is to ensure that each student has the learning opportunities and supports he or she needs to be successful.
