Bayview Students Excel at the Canadian Computing Competition
(Invited to compete for a spot in Canada’s Team for the International Olympiad for Informatics)

Colin Li and Shine Wang, were two out of the 27 students who qualified nationally, for the highly competitive second stage of the Canadian Computing Competition. The second stage  was held, during the week of May 13 -17, at the University of Waterloo. They were competing for four coveted spots to represent Canada at the International Olympiad for Informatics, which is to be held in Brisbane, Australia this year.

It was an unforgettable week for both of them, replete with memorable experiences of intense competition in the mornings and quiet afternoons. Spending a week at Waterloo was enjoyable and enlightening as well. They had the opportunity to listen to professors’ lectures on current fields of research, have a taste of university life, and conversed with the brightest young Canadian minds in computer science. Colin missed making the four-member to team by just one mark to represent Canada. Shine and Colin performed very well with Shine winning a silver medal, and Colin winning gold.  Colin is currently in grade 10 and Shine is graduating from Bayview Secondary School. Congratulations goes to both students.
