Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Bayview Secondary School has been a member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Community since 2003. We are very pleased to announce that Alexander Mackenzie High School, Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School, Maple High School and Milliken Mills High School are also IB World Schools members in the family of IB Schools in York Region.
The IB is a not for profit foundation, motivated by its mission to create a better world through education. The Programme was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 and as of June 2016 has grown to include 3000 World Schools offering the Diploma Programme. The Programme “offers a curriculum that is broad and balanced, conceptual and connected”. It is designed for motivated students between the ages of 16 and 19 and promotes “healthy relationships, ethical responsibility and personal challenge". The Programme helps students to develop “the attitudes and skills they need for both academic and personal success”.
In York Region we traditionally invited students to apply to our Programme in the autumn of their Grade 8 year. (Please see the Application and Admissions section for details). Successful applicants participate in an enriched course of study during Grade 9 and 10, and begin the IB Diploma Programme in their Grade 11 year. Students in our IB Programme earn both the IB Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Please note that we are a full Diploma Program and do not offer Subject Certificates.
