Buttonville: a poem
By: Allan Myers
Taught at Buttonville Schoolhouse 1926-27.
Of all the suburbs ‘neath the sun
Buttonville is just the one.
Our town is all aglow at nights,
Lit up by brilliant delco-lights.
We have an abundant water supply,
The stock drinks from the stream nearby.
The general store in ‘run’ by Les. (Hood)
Is it good one? Well I guess!
He’ll sell you smock, shirt or shoes,
Everything in fact, excepting booze.
We buy our milk at Hooper’s dairy,
They have the system, cash and carry,
We get it while it’s fresh you see.
And from all bacteria free.
...
If you would see a cattle show,
To the north end you must go;
You’ll never doubt R. Roger’s word,
When you’ve seen Cline Burr’s herd.
When you are sick and getting worse,
Call Mrs. Craig to act as nurse,;
Or if your cow has lost its cud,
Doc Kelly’ll come right through the mud.
If amusement you would seek,
Just wend your way along east street.
The hall affords some card games grand,
And dancing to McDonald’s Band.
...
Each week we have our Sunday School
Where we are taught the Golden rule.
Now I’m sure you’re all agreed
Buttonville supplies our need.
