1)
Welcome &
Acceptance of Current Agenda (Amanda)
All were in favour of the agenda.
2)
Acceptance of September 2019 Meeting
Minutes (Amanda)
Marie motioned to approve
the September Minutes, Chris
seconded
3) Committee
Updates
a.
Fundraising – discussed how
to get notifications out for
fundraising, school website, committee
board, doors, Facebook
page(s). We cannot “ask” for money via
email. But if parents
understand that it is
a Fundraiser
for the school and that
funds raised are helping, they
are more willing to purchase.
Movie Night -
Food/drinks went smoothly,
however, must make it clear
that
parents bring in their
child and stay with them. We
will be more vigilant on movie nights/school council
events, have someone at the door watching when
people come in. Memos
when checking out on
School Cash etc… should help.
Future events, maybe
split the students up, have a night for the older
kids.
Chris Z., Chris
N.
and Haafid have
again generously donated
the Movie Licensing
Fee. Thank you so much!
Spiritwear is in and will be
sent home later this week.
b.
Parent Engagement –
discuss dates & event ideas- for next meeting
c.
Sustainability – focus
on outdoor classroom
this year (circle full of boulders, full of sun and surrounded by trees and flowers
for teachers to bring their class)
look at building a retaining
wall, looking for a solution to save the trees. A few
members offered to help do this in
the spring. School plans
to plant
a tree to represent
each house team.
4)
Treasurer’s Report
2019/ 2020 – (Liz)
Movie Night funds to be finalized
but approx. $600
was made. Judi found the donations for the Silent Auction of approx. $2100. Spiritwear and Gingerbread numbers should be available by next meeting. Discussed
how we should report
to the community what has been
raised and how/where that money is
helping the school. This
should be communicated more
often.
5)
Update From School (Scott/
Vivienne)
Indigenous Education and Equity
plan to engage families/guardians and communities. K-Gr1 taking part in
Outdoor education, first nation Metis Inuit/Natural
curiosity and environmental education
team collaboration.
DAP Goal #2
to raise achievement and wellbeing of our
underserved and underperforming students. Building relationships, dismantling systemic
barriers. School staff received
anti-black racism
training on Oct 21, more
info on website.
Applied
to be a legacy school through
Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. For more information about the fund visit https://downiewenjack.ca/.
EQAO school results
posted on website, along with Region and Province. Results
shows all the hard work the
teachers have put into the
math program have shown positive results. School gets detailed
results and work on target
areas where they scored lower.
If
parents need help understanding the changes in the
education curriculum, speak with
the teachers. Possible students
peer tutoring for house
team points or extra marks. Grade 8’s
helping grade
3’s etc..
House team day Oct 24th spirit day was a success! Will have
more events, some for the seniors, some for the juniors. There
was a rock paper scissors possy tournament. Students stay with the house
until they graduate the
school. Plant trees for each
of the house teams.
