1)   Welcome & Acceptance of Current Agenda (Amanda)

-all were in favour of the agenda

                                     

2)   Acceptance of January 2019 Meeting Minutes (Amanda)

-Jenn accepted the minutes and Haafid seconded the motion

 

 

3)   Treasurer’s Report (Kelly)

-Kelly was not present for the meeting and therefore, discussion did not take place

 

4)   Committee Updates and Upcoming Events:

Upcoming Events:

·         Movie night: Thursday, February 28th

·         Cornell-A-Thon: Thursday, March 28th

·         Silent Auction and Fun Fair: Thursday, June 13th

 

a)   Fundraising Update (Amanda)

-students have been asked their top three choices for the Cornell-A-Thon and include coding, dance, dodgeball, reading, etc.

-Cornell-A-Thon will include a STEM room, dance-a-thon, sport-a-thon, coding, read-a-thon

-notice will be sent out to parents about Cornell-A-Thon and ask for assistance with the donation of prizes; donations will be eligible for a tax receipt

-pledge form will be sent out next week

 

 

b)   Parent Engagement (Haafid)

-the school has $1000 in pro grant funds, Scott suggested that some funds be used for the Me To We night to assist with some of the costs for that night

-possibly have speaker at Me To We night which pro grant funds can be used towards

 

 

c)    Healthy Schools (Marie)

-Marie was not present for the meeting, therefore, no update

 

d)   Yearbook (Karen/Myka)

-will use the same vendor as last year

-each teacher has their own drive and can upload photos

-teachers have been taking photos at different events

-will probably use the same template as last year

-the cover of the yearbook has been chosen; students submitted entries for covers and they were voted on

 

 

5)   Update From School (Scott)

-Me to We team will have a water walk and a Me to We night to bring more awareness to family

-the theme that the Me to We team chose this year focuses on water conservation

-the Eco team will also be participating in this events

 

-boy and girls programs to engage students (big brothers and sisters)

-Game On program to engage kids

-girls group focus on issues that they want to bring awareness about ‘girl talk’

-parents are respecting the kiss and ride more and not trying to pass other cars

-cost sharing order has been submitted and 49 Chromebooks were ordered

-school has 4 smartboards which are more flexible than the traditional smartboard

-school would like to purchase more coding and STEM materials

 

-school has brought in different arts program performances that also have themes of inclusion

 

-there is a safe spaces club that focus on anti-bullying themes and have a display case in the school hall

-the safe spaces club ran the last school assembly

 

-school will be implementing a parent/ guardian day instead of the traditional mother/ father’s day to be inclusive of the many different family dynamics within the school; this will allow the students to honour the person(s) who is important and significant to them

 

-ski trip was cancelled due to inclement weather

-parents will be refunded their money

 

-grade 8’s will be going on a trip to Ottawa

 

-Jump trip for grade 6’s will be occurring in June; students will be visiting Wilfred Laurier University

-last year one student did not attend but this year about six students will not be attending; school is keeping track of how many students attend each year to ensure that the trip is being inclusive

 

 

 

6)   New Business (All)

-Sandy Kim can no longer participate on the council

 

-discussion about creating a bio for each parent council member so that there is more

transparency and parents can reach out to members more if needed

-biographies will be posted on bulletin board in the school and on the school website

 

-there are some issues with the school calendar where the name of the events are not showing

up but instead it states ‘busy’

 

-next meeting will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019

 

7)  Motion to Adjourn (Amanda)

-Haafid accepted motion to adjourn, Liz seconded the motion
