1) Welcome
& Acceptance of current agenda (Chris)
-Chris chaired the meeting in Amanda’s absence
-all were in favour of the agenda

-Cassandra accepted the minutes, Katherine second

3) Committee
Updates
a) Fundraising Update & Event Planning
(Katherine)
-Muskoka chairs need to be purchased from Costco for
painting; assembly required
-members voted for the purchase of 2 Muskoka chairs ($120)
and majority voted in favour of the purchase
-need to solicit more people/companies to acquire more
fundraising items from the list
-Cassandra is starting to put things together
-Chris to reach out to Markham Ski Station and School of Rock
-Rick to reach out to Martial Arts and Markham Stouffville Hospital (bear, car
seats safety, etc)
-Niro to reach out to Kicks
-Cassandra will make a gift card board where all gift cards will be displayed
-Karen to find a face painter (Jenn Hamilton)
-spirit wear invoice to come from Chris after balance of
order received over next 1-2 weeks
-excess shirts printed in order to be sold at Fun Fair (sell for profit)
-plan to start selling more spirit wear at Curriculum night
in October 2018 of new school year
-Kelly suggested raising money for another water bottle fountain
for next year (possibly ECO team could raise assist with raising funds)
b) Parent Engagement (Shelley)
-Shelley gave an update using a colour coded graph to show
participation by grade in math night, attitude about math and it how was
reflected before and after the session
-attendance was much higher with primary grades over
elementary or intermediate grades
-thoughts for next time: attendance may improve if the
event is changed to a different time of year, attendance could have been
reduced based on sports try outs and student evening activities.
c) Healthy Schools

-running as per usual
d) Yearbook Committee (Marie/ Chris/Katherine)
-Katherine has completed the class photo templates and is
ready to input the photos, however the CD provided by LifeTouch are sorted
alphabetically by grade and first name, not by class
-Myka was made aware of this issue last Friday and that the
CD needs to be sorted by class
-Nadia to request new CD from LifeTouch

email correspondence at the beginning of April 2018, the council voted
in favour of the following allocation of funds raised so far this year:

$1,200 for 20 sports jerseys (60 have
already been purchased, council would be reimbursing the school for 20)
·
$1,500 for a ball catcher (to be
purchased) and placed either in the kindergarten pen or preferably in the
school yard if there is room; it will be ordered and installed this year should
everyone agree
·
$2,800 for the complete redesign and
furnishing of an upstairs POD to be completed by June (already in the planning
phase)
·
$4,000 or more – (still to be
raised from the silent auction and another fundraiser before the end of the
year) to go towards technology; this will be spent next September 2018 as part
of the cost sharing program
5) Update
From School (Scott/ Nadia/ Shelley)
-ECO Warriors set up several events
-65% students are walking to school so Scott can wear the
green onesie
-pitch and cleanup is this Friday April 27th
(change of date due to weather)
-the musical last Thursday April 19th sold 250 tickets
-math, chess, sports tryouts and sports going well
-this Thursday is the ME to WE FILM to change – 14 films,
fun night, blue carpet entrance, working on the global initiative of ‘water’
and local initiative of ‘food and security’
-fundraising through the sale of popcorn, and other events
to support local initiatives
-We classrooms have attached themselves to some social
initiative (buy a bear, pet drive through OSPCA, painted the library,
friendship bracelets, etc.)
-students have put together the 14 films to showcase this
coming Thursday and will show the participating classes
-film is at 6pm and tickets will be sold at the door, $5
for family
-Wednesday April 24th 2pm, good news assembly
(Jr and intermediate)
-book fair: Thursday April 25th
-Monday April 30th there’s a daytime spring concert 2pm-2:30pm
-Thursday May 3rd is Welcome to Kindergarten – 6pm
-May 7-9th: Grade 8 Ottawa Trip
-May 7th begins music Monday
(day time event)
-May 16th:Track and Field Day (May 17th is the rain date)
for grades 4-8
-Grade 3 and 6 notices about EQAO testing sent to parents
-class placements currently taking place
-school is holding 140 spaces for one more year until new
school built; next school year will be the last year
-Bill Hogarth Open House – May 24th at 5:30pm
6) New
Business (All)
Outdoor Garden (Shelley on behalf of Sue)
-outdoor garden needs soil and help to maintain throughout summer
-Chris will make a call to Farmer Jack to request soil
-3 trees donated from a parent from Eco Warriors
-1 tree to be donated and request flowers for outdoor
classroom and kinder-“garden”
-the week before May 14th, volunteers needed to help clean
up the garden, till the garden; will need to rent or borrow a till
-ask parents if
they have plants that they could donate from their gardens; looking for hostas,
black eye susans, ground covers etc.
-donations of
plants should be given by Tuesday, May 22nd after the long weekend;
they will be planted that week.
-need to create a
water schedule for the summer
-Scott to speak
to caretaking staff to find an easier method to water plants rather than to
filling barrels and using a dolly to transport water to gardens/flowers
Parent Council Committee Members
-Kristin Vikse and Jenn Koppes have been
removed from the attendance list on these minutes, as they are unable to
continue to be part of the committee
