Introduction of School Admin and it’s Role
(Scott/ Vivienne)
-Scott and Vivienne introduced themselves
-they have
met
with the leadership team to
develop vision
for
this year
-will develop shared
solutions with input from the community
-focus to create a welcoming community and receive
input from parents
and students

Introduction of Council Members and
Attendees (All)
-introduction of all attendees and council
members
-20 individuals filled out the
form to become a committee
member

the committee voted to have
19
council members

Review of
Council Protocols, Roles and Responsibilities
(Amanda)
-the roles for each Executive Member
were reviewed including
the Chair, Vice-Chair, Past Chair Treasurer and Secretary
-reviewed that there
are
sub-committees which council
members would need to
sign up for

Nomination of Executive Roles (All)
Nominations were put forth
and
voting took place, the
results were as follows:

Treasurer’s Report
2018/ 2019 (Kelly)
-hot lunches raised $5000
-Cornell-A-Thon raised $ 6000
-Fun fair raised $3200

Review of

-funds allocated
to water filling station upstairs
which has been purchased and installed
-coding equipment
was purchased as per school’s request
-there
are some laptop and chromebook carts, two tech tubs; each
class also has some technology in the
room
-each kindergarten class has next generation
Smart board
-3D
printer purchased last year,
located in library
-plan to take advantage
of the board’s cost sharing technology program again this year
-will
revisit an assessment
and cost for
the
outdoor classroom which includes the building
of a retaining wall so
the soil doesn’t keep washing away

Description and Sign Up For Committees

-a review was given of the sub-committees
-forms were circulated for members to sign
up for sub-committees

Update From School (Scott/
Vivienne)
- as of July 2019
CVPS became the holding school for
Southeast 5
-plan to put ball catcher in
kindergarten area
-there is interest in
getting art and music technology for the
school
-a
new baritone was purchased
-the
school owns all their
instruments
-there is a student voice committee that will be doing a
survey
-Me
To We has started
-there will be a robotics YRDSB competition that
CVPS will participate
in
-house teams will be running this year; students have been
given colours and work as a team; currently, the
focus is on ‘kindness’
-there are 6 different
trees associated with the
different colours
-October
17th is
tentative kick off day: will develop cheers,
team building activities; focus
is on doing challenges together and developing a welcoming place
-having older
kids as leaders
and
interacting with younger kids
-will
create shirts for the house league teams that would be available for purchase; Chris will look into
the
order for the shirts and obtain
a quote
-CVPS
received Gold last year
for being an eco-school; Myka explained how to obtain points
to reach each level to receive
recognition for being eco-friendly
-there is only one caretaker in the evenings
-whenever
there are events, the caretaker requested that there be
volunteers to cleanup
afterwards
-in
the main hallway near the
school entrance doors, there will be one
board dedicated to theme of the
month and another board dedicated to Ontario Heritage Months

New Business (All)
a. Orientation Night
-will take place
on September 25, 2019
-there will be food trucks and ice-cream
from 5-6pm
-meet the teachers from 6-7pm

need volunteers to set up and clean up afterwards
-email will be sent out to those
who signed up for the
fundraising committee to attend a meeting to begin
planning and determining dates for
fundraising events

Other Items
-discussion about installing
a playground but Scott raised issues that it is expensive
and
maintenance would be
at the school’s expense which
can be as high as approximately
$11,000 in a year for maintenance and repairs
-an
alternative to a playground is
‘loose parts’ for Kindergarten
pens or equipment that is
part of the athletic education
but not permanent structures
-discussion took place
about eating snacks during class time; Scott stated that this is happening
again this year and will
remind teachers
-snacks cannot be
eaten outside during recess
-discussed boomerang lunch which means
garbage comes home and
cannot be thrown
out at school;
this will be promoted
at school and information
will be sent via newsletter to the parents
-discussed TerraCycle
for recycling wrappers; cost is
approximately $300
