     Bottle Drive Update:

Posted on various FB community groups - went very well. Total of 15-20 houses to pick up. $201 raised.

Liz will look at 2022/2023 dates to do this throughout the school year. We should get a few more volunteers in certain areas to pick up bottles to distribute the workload.

Friday Lunch Program - Sent out last set of sub dates

$750 estimated for first 5 weeks; another $600 estimated for final 6 weeks

     Staff Appreciation

Thank you to Heidi and Justine for April’s contribution

Perhaps purchase Sunflower Seeds ($2 each for ~46 staff) from kids who are raising funds for Ukraine families in the community. To distribute in May?

     Last one in June

Parent Engagement - Virtual Cooking Class Update:

Ask chefs to talk about their background in becoming a chef, make connections to the community and culture, the food, etc. 5:30 PM - ~6:30 PM. Ensure options include GF and Vegetarian/Vegan options.

May 18 - Joyce (Chinese) - Spring rolls and dumplings

May 25 - Maxine (Caribbean) - Amanda to confirm with Leanne re: meal

     Communication

Thank you to Karen and Heidi for keeping our FB page up-to-date!

Spirit squad to be reminded to upload info to Ms. Skinner (internal calendar) and Heidi ASAP

     Constitution Review

Scott, Amanda, Sarah, Haafid, Heidi - great job for taking a look at this and updating the information. Sarah will send it out to us to review and to vote on within 30 days of receipt.

Made it more generic and modern in terms of wording so it doesn’t have to be tweaked often

     Gender pronouns updated

Removed items such as having to photocopying and print items, etc.

     Sustainability

Earth Day: Over 10 classes signed up - great experience for all

Wildflower Seeds: Ms. Hang will reach out to any classes to see if any classes would be interested in taking these seeds for class projects

Indigenous plant seeds? Natural Curiousity did an outdoor/nature training session pre-Covid.Table for next year.

The Butterflyway Project (David Suzuki program - CVPS was part of this before Covid). Table for next year.

Take Action: No response from teachers. Ms. Hang to reach out to teachers again in a stand alone message. Committee will discuss what other causes to target or table for next year.

Kindergarten garden hasn’t worked in the past due to acidic soil, kids stepping on it, needed constant watering, people stole plants, lots of work to upkeep - not really worth trying to make a proper garden out of it.

Lemonade stand for walk-to-school days - decide when to start (May?), send blurb out for weekly newsletter. Plan for a few days and send out the message separately.

See if we can get students to make posters, signage - kids can volunteer to wear the signs in the morning

Try to find out who the Eco-Certified stickers to motivate students

Figure out an alternative for families who have no option but to drive and how they can participate.

Update from School                                                                20 mins           Scott/Leeann

Earth Week: Thank you, Ms. Hang. Good to see those pieces coming back!

Graduation date: June 27 in-person at Bill Hogarth. DJ, surprise ice cream truck, but no cake.

Deron Douglas - wall mural is coming along very well - main wall upstairs and front hall in the school on main level. Canvases for all kids including virtual students so they can participate.

COVID Update: trying to be as transparent as possible. We are doing a great job to keep track of cases, inform the community, keep masking for those who can and most are still wearing masks. School will share if someone in the class has a case. 15 cases in one kindergarten class and precautions were taken right away - everyone masked again and it seems to be working.

Grade 7 and 8 Spoken Words pilot project: writing, media, etc. Wrote first one and presented and a few students now made it to the semi-finalist. Now need to use a different medium to compete. Kids have done a great job on this as well!

Up and Running Activities: Ukulele classes, basketball club (girls started already - boys will start soon), Reach For The Top - April 30th will be the national finals, Confident Me Workshops, Grade 7 Outdoor Milne Trip in June (in-person)

Masks still being worn for sports - it is working

Floor Hockey for Grade 3 and 4s starting soon

Fun Fair: Date confirmed for Wednesday, June 1 from 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Moving forward to keeping it on one date, rain or shine. Will mark off which activities can be kept outdoors in case of rain, perhaps have a few tented areas to cover areas for eating and face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, etc. Other activities will need to be relocated indoors.

starting to reach out to vendors including fire trucks, food trucks, ice cream truck

Silent auction in library or outside under a tent if not raining - Council will manage this. Make this accessible online as well so everyone can bid right to the end.

Who is able to help on-site - ask Council

New Business                                                                         5 mins             All

     None to share
